4 Tools to Help You Dream Big in 2021
As we come to the close of 2020 (the strangest year in history!), we’re planning on shaking off the negativity and anxiety we’ve experienced this year and starting 2021 like we mean it. Dreaming big for our business, working on ways to unlock some of our potential as well as implementing a meaningful growth strategy.
As we were coming up with these grand plans, we began to realise that we weren’t the only business feeling this way. The pandemic has affected us all in so many different ways. But, whether you’ve had to pivot or divot, press pause or fast forward we’re guessing, like us, you’re soooo over it! And, ready to move on?
Maybe you’ve had flashes of brilliant ideas this year but haven’t had the time to make those ideas a reality? Perhaps you’re ready to launch a new product or service but are lacking the confidence in your skills to take the plunge? It might be that, whatever your dream, you simply don’t have anyone to bounce your big idea off and help make it a reality?
We first dreamt big six years ago when we launched the creative force that is Queen Bee and we’ve learnt a few lessons about how to achieve our dreams along the way. So, as we embark on our own next ‘dream big’ phase, we’ve been reminded of the four key areas, we feel are game changers for making change.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll look at each of these four in more detail, with our tips and tricks for overcoming the challenges they pose and even turning them to your advantage. But for now, our hacks to dreaming big will include:
Time to Dream
To really think big, you need time; time to ruminate, time to plan, time to lay the groundwork, time to deliver. While some of us may have had a little more time during lockdown, so many business owners reported back to us how unmotivated they were feeling during all the uncertainty. If this is you, know that you aren’t alone, stop beating yourself up and focus on the future. How are you going to use your time better in 2021? Or, if you’re one of the luckier businesses that didn’t even stop to breathe during lockdown, how are you going to find that valuable time in 2021?
Skill Up or Outsource
Big ideas often take us out of our comfort zone, that’s what makes them so exciting! But it’s also what makes them so scary and so many gooooood ideas get pushed around notebooks and to the bottom of task lists simply because they look overwhelming, or there’s that massive gap in our skillset. It’s such a good opportunity….but how!?!? How can you make it happen in 2021? Is it about facing your fears or reaching out for help?
A Successful Sounding Board
Has lockdown found your nearest and dearest utterly bored or disinterested by your ideas, worries or dilemmas for your business? Or quite the opposite, are they voicing their opinion at every opportunity? For so many, running your own business is as much about the passion as the money and, while it’s hard to accept, not very many will share your fervour, or truly ‘get it’ either. Yet ideas can’t be nurtured on their own, you need to know if they’re good ideas, profitable ideas, practical ideas. Who can you turn to really give your idea the honest appraisal it needs or the accountability to make it happen? And no, the dog doesn’t count!
Positively Inspired
Inspiration is about creating positive change. With so much inspiring content at our fingertips, we don’t even have to venture too far from our homes (although it would be nice!) to find things that motivate us and sometimes give us a well-needed nudge in the right direction. However, if inspiration turns into comparison then your ‘sources’ of inspiration are not actually inspiring you. Indeed, they are probably pulling you backwards. It doesn’t help when it feels like everyone else has it licked (they don’t by the way). So, where are you going to find your inspiration? What’s going to give you that kick up the bottom? How will you get your buzz back after an energy depleting year?
Certainly, what defines success is different for everyone and every business. Your journey might be completely different to ours, but the considerations we describe above have been critical to helping us not only dream big, but achieve some milestones along the way.
If any of this resonates with you, we hope you’ll join us as we explore each of these 4 areas in more detail over the next 4 weeks. We’ll be sharing our insights, ideas and tools in the hope that other business owners will find a nugget that works for them too. We all need a helping hand to dream big, now more than ever, and if success attracts success, that’s got to be good for everyone!
